8 Scientific benefits of Black See

1. Packed with Anti-Oxidants

Antioxidants are substances that neutralize harmful free radicals and prevent oxidative damage to cells.

Research shows that antioxidants can have a powerful effect on health and disease.

In fact, some studies indicate that antioxidants may protect against several types of chronic conditions, including cancer, diabetes, heart disease and obesity (2Trusted Source).

Several compounds found in kalonji, such as thymoquinone, carvacrol, t-anethole and 4-terpineol, are responsible for its potent antioxidant properties (3Trusted Source).

One test-tube study found that kalonji essential oil also acted as an antioxidant (4Trusted Source).

However, further research is needed to determine how the antioxidants found in kalonji may impact health in humans.

2. May Lower Cholesterol

Cholesterol is a fat-like substance found throughout your body. While you need some cholesterol, high amounts can build up in your blood and increase your risk of heart disease.

Kalonji has been shown to be especially effective at lowering cholesterol.

One review of 17 studies found that supplementing with kalonji was associated with significant decreases in both total and “bad” LDL cholesterol, as well as blood triglycerides.

Interestingly, it also found that kalonji oil had a greater effect than kalonji seed powder. However, only seed powder increased levels of “good” HDL cholesterol (5Trusted Source).

Another study in 57 people with diabetes showed that supplementing with kalonji for one year decreased total and LDL cholesterol, all while increasing HDL cholesterol (6Trusted Source).

Lastly, a study in 94 people with diabetes had similar findings, reporting that taking 2 grams of kalonji daily for 12 weeks reduced both total and LDL cholesterol (7Trusted Source).

3. Could Have Cancer-Fighting Properties

Kalonji is high in antioxidants, which help neutralize harmful free radicals that may contribute to the development of diseases like cancer.

Test-tube studies have found some impressive results regarding the potential anti-cancer effects of kalonji and thymoquinone, its active compound.

For instance, one test-tube study found that thymoquinone induced cell death in blood cancer cells (8Trusted Source).

Another test-tube study showed that kalonji extract helped inactivate breast cancer cells (9Trusted Source).

Other test-tube studies suggest that kalonji and its components may also be effective against several other types of cancer, including pancreatic, lung, cervical, prostate, skin and colon cancers (10Trusted Source).

However, there is no evidence on the anti-cancer effects of kalonji in humans. Studies are needed to examine whether kalonji has any cancer-fighting benefits when used as a spice or taken as a supplement.

4. Can Help Kill off Bacteria

Disease-causing bacteria are responsible for a long list of dangerous infections, ranging from ear infections to pneumonia.

Some test-tube studies have found that kalonji may have antibacterial properties and be effective at fighting off certain strains of bacteria.

One study applied kalonji topically to infants with a staphylococcal skin infection and found that it was as effective as a standard antibiotic used to treat bacterial infections (11Trusted Source).

Another study isolated methicillin-resistant Staphylococcus aureus (MRSA), a strain of bacteria that is difficult to treat and resistant to antibiotics, from the wounds of diabetic patients.

Kalonji killed off the bacteria in a dose-dependent manner in over half of the samples (12Trusted Source).

Several other test-tube studies have shown that kalonji can help inhibit the growth of MRSA, as well as many other strains of bacteria (13Trusted Source, 14Trusted Source).

Yet, human studies are limited, and more research is needed to look at how kalonji may affect different strains of bacteria in the body.

5. May Alleviate Inflammation

In most cases, inflammation is a normal immune response that helps protect the body against injury and infection.

On the other hand, chronic inflammation is believed to contribute to a variety of diseases, such as cancer, diabetes and heart disease (15Trusted Source).

Some studies have found that kalonji may have powerful anti-inflammatory effects in the body.

In one study in 42 people with rheumatoid arthritis, taking 1,000 mg of kalonji oil daily for eight weeks reduced markers of inflammation and oxidative stress (16Trusted Source).

In another study, inflammation was induced in the brain and spinal cord of rats. Compared to a placebo, kalonji was effective at protecting against and suppressing inflammation (17Trusted Source).

Similarly, a test-tube study showed that thymoquinone, the active compound in kalonji, helped reduce inflammation in pancreatic cancer cells (18Trusted Source).

Despite these promising results, most human studies are limited to people with specific conditions. More research is needed to understand how kalonji may affect inflammation among the general population.

6. Could Help Protect the Liver

The liver is an incredibly important organ. It removes toxins, metabolizes drugs, processes nutrients and produces proteins and chemicals that are crucial to health.

Several promising animal studies have found that kalonji may help protect the liver against injury and damage.

In one study, rats were injected with a toxic chemical, either with or without kalonji. Kalonji reduced the toxicity of the chemical and protected against liver and kidney damage (19Trusted Source).

Another animal study had similar findings, showing that kalonji protected rats against induced liver damage, compared to a control group (20Trusted Source).

One review attributed the protective effects of kalonji to its antioxidant content and ability to reduce inflammation and oxidative stress (21Trusted Source).

However, more studies are needed to measure how kalonji may influence liver health in humans.

7. Can Aid in Blood Sugar Regulation

High blood sugar can cause many negative symptoms, including increased thirst, unintentional weight loss, fatigue and difficulty concentrating.

Left unchecked in the long term, high blood sugar can lead to even more serious consequences, such as nerve damage, vision changes and slow wound healing.

Some evidence shows that kalonji could help keep blood sugar steady and thus prevent these dangerous adverse side effects.

One review of seven studies showed that supplementing with kalonji improved levels of fasting and average blood sugar (22Trusted Source).

Similarly, another study in 94 people found that taking kalonji daily for three months significantly reduced fasting blood sugar, average blood sugar and insulin resistance (23Trusted Source).

8. May Prevent Stomach Ulcers

Stomach ulcers are painful sores that form when stomach acids eat away at the layer of protective mucus that lines the stomach.

Some research shows that kalonji could help preserve the lining of the stomach and prevent the formation of ulcers.

In one animal study, 20 rats with stomach ulcers were treated using kalonji. Not only did it result in healing effects in about 83% of rats, but it was also nearly as effective as a common medication used to treat stomach ulcers (24Trusted Source).

Another animal study showed that kalonji and its active components prevented ulcer development and protected the lining of the stomach against the effects of alcohol (25Trusted Source).

Keep in mind that current research is limited to animal studies. Further research is needed to determine how kalonji may affect stomach ulcer development in humans.

The Bottom Line

The seeds of the kalonji plant are known for their diverse culinary uses and medicinal properties.

Traditionally used to treat a variety of ailments, kalonji has been associated with a wide range of health benefits.

However, many of them have only been examined in test-tube or animal studies.

Although more research is needed, adding kalonji to your diet or using it as a supplement could have a beneficial effect on several aspects of your health.

12 Scientific Health Benefits of Turmeric and Curcumin

Like many spices, turmeric (Curcuma longa) has a long history of use in traditional medicine. This flavor-filled spice is primarily cultivated from the rhizomes, or roots, of a flowering plant that grows in India and other parts of Southeast Asia, and aside from giving curry its vibrant yellow color, turmeric is also known for having potent anti-inflammatory and antioxidant properties, according to a past review.

The primary active component of turmeric — and the one that gives the spice its characteristic yellow color — is curcumin.

Indeed, you can credit curcumin with most of turmeric’s potential health benefits.

1. Curcumin Is an Anti-Inflammatory

One of turmeric’s main claims to fame is that it’s commonly used to fight inflammation, and the bulk of turmeric’s inflammation-fighting powers can be assigned to curcumin. In fact, in the right dose, curcumin may be a more effective anti-inflammatory treatment than common inflammation-fighting medications according to a past study. – (click here for link to study)

More research is needed in this area as well.

Because chronic inflammation contributes to

many chronic diseases, curcumin may help treat conditions like inflammatory bowel disease, pancreatitis, and arthritis, according to a past review.

2. Curcumin May Help Protect Against Heart Disease

A past study shows that curcumin may improve endothelial function, or the health of the thin membrane that covers the inside of the heart and blood vessels. This membrane plays a key role in regulating blood pressure.

Lower endothelial function is associated with aging and an increased risk of heart disease. Thus, curcumin may help protect against age-related loss of function and reduce your likelihood of developing heart disease.

In one study, researchers compared the effects of an eight-week aerobic exercise program and a curcumin supplement in improving endothelial function in post-menopausal women. Both the exercise and the curcumin group saw equal improvements in endothelial function, whereas the control group saw no changes. – (click here for link to study)

Another study (click here for link to study) found that curcumin was equally effective at improving endothelial function in people with type 2 diabetes (click here for link to study)

Still, more research is needed to determine if curcumin is a safe and effective long-term treatment strategy for people with heart disease.

3. Curcumin May Help Prevent (and Possibly Treat) Certain Types of Cancer

As inflammation is linked to tumor growth, anti-inflammatory compounds such as curcumin may play a role in the treatment and prevention of a variety of cancer types, including colorectal, pancreatic, prostate, breast, and gastric cancers.

Research in mice suggests that curcumin may help slow the spread of tumor cells and may even prevent tumors from forming in the first place. – (click here for link to clinical study)

It may do this in several ways, including disrupting the formation of cancerous cells at various stages in the cell cycle, interfering with cell signaling pathways, and even causing those cancerous cells to die.- (click here for link to study)

Whether curcumin can help treat cancer in humans has yet to be determined, but the research is ongoing.

Some research also suggests that turmeric or curcumin can help with certain cancer symptoms. One review of 11 studies on the effects of turmeric on prostate diseases (including eight studies on patients with prostate cancer), published online in August 2021 as part of the Advances in Experimental Medicine and Biology book series, suggests that supplementing with turmeric or curcumin may offer perks.- (click here for link to study)

While some studies found curcumin or turmeric supplements had no effect on patients with prostate diseases, a few showed beneficial effects on levels of prostate-specific antigen (a protein produced by the prostate gland; blood levels of this protein are typically higher in men with prostate cancer), urination frequency and urgency, and quality of life.

Researchers note that more studies are needed to assess the true impact of curcumin on prostate conditions like cancer.- (click here for link to study)

4. Curcumin May Help Ease Symptoms of Osteoarthritis

Thanks to its potent anti-inflammatory properties, curcumin may be a safe and effective long-term treatment option for people with osteoarthritis (OA). At least, that was the conclusion of the authors of a recent review of the clinical use of curcumin for the treatment of osteoarthritis. The review was first published online in August 2021 as part of the Advances in Experimental Medicine and Biology book series.- (Click here for link to study)

In a past study, people with osteoarthritis who took 1,000 mg per day of Meriva – (click here for link to study) experienced significant improvements in stiffness and physical function after eight months, whereas the control group saw no improvements. Meriva is a proprietary treatment made up of a natural curcuminoid mixture (75 percent curcumin; 15 percent demethoxycurcumin; and 10 percent bisdemethoxycurcumin), phosphatidylcholine (a chemical found in eggs, soybeans, and other foods),

and microcrystalline cellulose (a refined wood pulp commonly used by the pharmaceutical and food industries).

Meanwhile, a recent clinical trial studied the potential effects of curcumin supplements on patients with knee osteoarthritis. The group that took 40 mg of nanocurcumin in a capsule every 12 hours experienced a significant decrease in pain and stiffness after six weeks compared with the control group. The findings were published in 2020 in Current Rheumatology Reviews. – (click here for link to study)

And a study in mice published in the June 2016 issue of Arthritis Research & Therapy found that 50 mg oral curcumin per kg of body weight significantly slowed the progression of OA, whereas a topical curcumin treatment provided pain relief.- (click here for link to study)

That said, whether these specific benefits apply to humans has yet to be seen.

5. Curcumin May Help Treat or Prevent Diabetes

According to a past review of studies, (click here for link to study)

curcumin may help treat and prevent diabetes, as well as associated disorders like diabetic nephropathy (also called diabetic kidney disease), which affects people with type 1 diabetes and type 2 diabetes.

One drawback: Many of the studies were done only in animals, not humans.

For example, one study found that feeding 80 mg of tetrahydrocurcumin (one of the main substances in curcumin) per kg of body weight to rats with type 2 diabetes for 45 days led to a significant decrease in blood sugar, as well as an increase in plasma insulin. (click here for link to study)

A study of obese mice with type 2 diabetes published in the July 2019 issue of Nutrition & Metabolism revealed that curcumin supplements helped lower blood insulin levels after 16 weeks. – (click here for link to study)

The authors of a recent review note that curcumin may be a good adjunct to diabetes treatment to improve insulin resistance and blood sugar control, and lower blood lipids (fatty substances found in the blood). The findings were published in August 2021 in Evidence-Based Complementary and Alternative Medicine. – (click here for link to study)

Meanwhile, curcumin may help prevent diabetes through its anti-inflammatory and antioxidant properties, and improve many of the factors that contribute to diabetes, including insulin resistance, high blood sugar, and hyperlipidemia (a medical term to describe elevated levels of fat in the blood; one type of hyperlipidemia is characterized by high levels of LDL or “bad” cholesterol). – (click here for link to study)

Still, more human studies are needed to confirm.

6. Curcumin May Help Delay or Reverse Alzheimer’s Disease

Turmeric may even help protect your brain against common degenerative diseases like Alzheimer’s. How? By increasing levels of brain-derived neurotrophic factor (BDNF), a protein found in the brain and spinal cord that plays a key role in keeping nerve cells (neurons) healthy, as well as regulating communication between nerve cells, which is critical for learning and memory.

As common brain disorders like Alzheimer’s are associated with lower levels of BDNF, turmeric (curcumin in particular) may help delay or reverse brain degeneration. – (click here for link to clinical study) , (click here for link to clinical study)

That said, much of the research has been done in rats.

Researchers note more research is needed to confirm the effectiveness of turmeric in the prevention and treatment of common brain diseases.

7. Curcumin May Play a Role in Depression Treatment

Like Alzheimer’s, depression is associated with lower levels of BDNF. Thanks to turmeric’s ability to boost levels of BDNF, the spice shows promise as an effective antidepressant. In fact, one study found that rats injected with 50, 100, or 200 mg/kg of curcumin for 10 days had a dose-dependent increase in BDNF, with the higher dose of 200 mg/kg showing greater antidepressant effects. – (click here for link to clinical study)

Meanwhile, in a study in humans that was published in Phytotherapy Research, researchers randomly assigned 60 patients with major depressive disorder to one of three groups: One group received daily 20 mg of a well known anti-depressant, another received 1,000 mg of curcumin, and a third received a combination of the two. By the end of six weeks, the three groups saw comparable improvements, leading researchers to suggest that curcumin may be a safe and effective treatment for major depressive disorder. – (click here for link to clinical study)

Still, scientists don’t fully understand the role of turmeric and curcumin in treating depression, and more research in humans is needed to confirm it is a safe and effective treatment. You should consult your primary care practitioner before beginning or changing any medications you may be taking. – (click here for link to study)

8. Curcumin May Play a Role in Treating Rheumatoid Arthritis

Curcumin shows promise as a treatment for rheumatoid arthritis (RA), a chronic inflammatory disorder that commonly affects the joints but may spread to other areas, such as the eyes, lungs, skin, heart, and blood vessels.

RA causes a painful swelling of the joints that can cause the bones to erode over time and ultimately lead to deformities and physical disabilities.

In one study, people with RA were given 500 mg of curcumin, 50 mg of a prescription nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drug), or the two in combination.

After eight weeks, the curcumin-only group saw significant improvements in joint tenderness and swelling when compared with the other two groups. Researchers note the curcumin treatment was also safe, resulting in no harmful events. – (click here to link to clinical study)

9. Turmeric May Improve Skin Health

Thanks to its anti-inflammatory, antimicrobial, and antioxidant properties, turmeric may be an effective treatment for a variety of skin conditions, including acne, eczema (atopic dermatitis), photoaging, and psoriasis. Yet robust research is lacking.

A review published in the January 2018 issue of Open Access Macedonian Journal of Medical Sciences suggests oral curcumin in particular may be an effective and safe treatment option for psoriasis (a chronic inflammatory skin disease), but more studies are needed before doctors make recommendations. – (click here for link to clinical study)

According to the authors of another review, topical curcumin treatments may be useful in treating skin disorders, especially as past research suggests curcumin is relatively safe even at high doses. But curcumin’s bright yellow-orange color, poor solubility, and poor stability at a high pH make it an unappealing topical skin treatment.- (click here for link to clinical study)

And thanks to its poor bioavailability, chances are you’d have to use curcumin to complement, not replace, other skin treatments, according to the authors of an article published in September 2019 in Nutrients. – (Click here for link to clinical study)

10. Turmeric Protects Your Body From Free Radicals

Antioxidants help protect your body against damage caused by free radicals, a class of highly reactive atoms that are generated in our bodies and found in environmental pollutants like cigarette smoke and industrial chemicals.

Too much exposure to free radicals can mess with the fats, proteins, and even DNA in your body, which may lead to a number of common diseases and health conditions, including cancer, arthritis, heart disease, and Alzheimer’s.

Therefore, antioxidant-rich spices like turmeric may play a role in protecting you from free radical damage.

Curcumin in particular is able to scavenge different types of free radicals, control enzymes that neutralize free radicals, and prevent certain enzymes from creating specific free radical types, according to a review in the October 2017 issue of Foods. – (click here for link to clinical study)

11. Turmeric May Work as an Anti-Aging Supplement

Currently, there’s no evidence that turmeric or curcumin directly influence longevity, but thanks to their ability to fight inflammation, protect your body against free radicals, and potentially delay brain degeneration and other age-related diseases, turmeric and curcumin may be effective anti-aging supplements, according to past research. – (click here for link to clinical study)

Studies also suggest that turmeric and curcumin are mostly safe, although some negative side effects (diarrhea, headache, rash) have been reported at doses ranging from 500 to 12,000 mg. – (click here for link to clinical study)

12. Curcumin May Prevent Eye Degeneration

Glaucoma, a group of eye conditions, is one of the leading causes of blindness in people over age 60.

And, unfortunately, once your vision is gone, it can’t be restored.

But preliminary research published July 2018 in Scientific Reports shows topical curcumin treatments may help protect the eyes against degeneration. Researchers applied a proprietary curcumin eye drop solution to rats two times per day for three weeks. By the end of the study, the untreated rats experienced a 23 percent reduction in retinal cells compared with the treatment group, suggesting that loss was prevented by the curcumin treatment.

The study findings sound impressive, but more studies are needed to determine if curcumin is effective in preventing eye degeneration in humans. – (click here for link to clinical study)

Amazing Benefits of Vitamins K2

Nature’s Artery Opener…Nobel Prize-winning discovery gets calcium out of your arteries and back into your bones, see below…

• Beyond chelation! • Beyond bypass! • Beyond blood thinners!

Calcium deposits tend to narrow the walls of your arteries. This is not unique , in fact its common! That’s because starting as early as your 20th birthday — calcium plaque starts to accumulate

in your arteries. 40-year-old arteries contain more calcium plaque. 50-year-old arteries contain even more. And, by 60… well — you get the picture…
Heart Attack 101:When artery walls get too narrow — blood can’t flow properly. And if blood can’t reach your heart — doctors call it a myocardial infarction — aka a “heart attack!” You might feel good and look good but this might be happening inside your arteries right now and you don’t know it! If calcium deposits are already narrowing the walls of your arteries… its a ticking time bomb!
Researchers have discovered a safe, simple way to get calcium deposits out of arteries and keep your blood vessels clear! The name of this remarkable artery opener is Vitamin K2. If you’ve never heard of it, you’re in for an eye-opening discovery…
You’ve probably heard all your life that you need calcium for strong bones. But what you may not know is when that same calcium ends up in your arteries it can narrow your blood vessels and set you up for a heart disaster! Researchers call it “the calcium paradox.”
That’s because you need calcium for strong bones — but if it ends up in your arteries it can kill you! But how did the calcium get there?
Viramin K2 clears CalciumVitamin K2 acts like a shuttle service that directs calcium in your body and can safely pull calcium out of your arteries… and put it back in your bones where it belongs! When you’re deficient in Vitamin K2 — calcium goes rogue and ends up in the walls of your arteries — causing “calcified” — or rigid arteries! Its been proven that the lack of Vitamin K2 causes calcium to fail to be deposited in bones where it belongs and to be deposited instead in arteries, aorta, soft tissues including muscle, breast, kidneys and in heel spurs.
Before I go any further I want to clarify Vitamin K2 is NOT the ordinary Vitamin K found in green, leafy vegetables. Vitamin K2 – also known as menaquinone — is very different. Vitamin K2 is a key nutrient to control calcium utilization in your body.Vitamin K2 contains many subtypes includingMK-1 through MK-13…And based on clinical research the exact subtype you need to get calcium out of your arteries — and back into your bones is Vitamin K2 as MK-7! This was proven in a famous Rotterdam Study that uncovered the secret to whistle clean arteries…
For 10 years, researchers tracked and monitored 10,994 men and women — all over the age of 55. Volunteers were different in many ways but there was ONE thing they had in common: participants who had high Vitamin K2 intake had the lowest levels of calcium in their aortas. And, Vitamin K2 was also shown to… raise their artery-beneficial HDL, decrease total cholesterol and enhance arterial blood flow!
That’s just one of many scientific studies that show the artery-clearing benefits of Vitamin K2! Unfortunately , getting Vitamin K2 as MK-7 from foods — is like finding a needle in a haystack! What about supplement stores and pharmacies. Unfortunately many of these don’t stock Vitamin K2 and if they do its rare and low dosage. Fortunately The Healing Altar has the exact form of Vitamin K2 as MK-7 to remove calcium deposits in arteries.

make their drugs by isolating the active ingredient , duplicating it and then turning it into a pill. The same active ingredient found in nature contains hundreds of other ingredients that work together as nature intended and no side effects! In the case of Red Yeast Rice the active ingredient is Monacolin K, It’s also known as lovastatin, the active ingredient in the prescription drug for cholesterol called Mevacor. So if you want to lower cholesterol naturally try RYCILLIN its made up of Red yeast rice , Cinnamon and Garcinia cambogia. Positive side effects besides cholesterol management.
Natural Multi-Nutrient Moringa

If you were taught that taking your vitamins every day was a vital part of staying healthy—right up there with brushing your teeth and eating your veggies—you’re not alone. For decades, doctors recommended multivitamins as an easy way to fill in any nutritional gaps in your diet. But recent research suggests

the benefits of man made multivitamins might be highly overrated. Is it time to toss your multis? Here’s what you should know. Firstly you do need multivitamins, mainly because of the quality of our fruit and veggies nowadays. It would be overkill to say that the carrot you eat today has very little nutrition in it—especially compared to some of the other less healthy foods you likely also eat—but it is true that fruits and vegetables grown decades ago were much richer in vitamins and minerals than the varieties most of us get today. The main culprit in this disturbing nutritional trend is soil depletion: Modern intensive agricultural methods have stripped increasing amounts of nutrients from the soil in which the food we eat grows. Sadly, each successive generation of fast-growing, pest-resistant carrot is truly less good for you than the one before. So you definitely need to take vitamin supplements, so, what do you take? Unfortunately many man made vitamins are not fully bioavailable when ingested and even the best brands are not effective. Its likened to making expensive urine , that’s because so much of the vitamins pass out of your body instead of absorbing into your bloodstream. The best would be a natural multi vitamin. So which herb or plant is best? In a recent study, the World Vegetable Center in Taiwan compared 120 types of food and found that moringa had the highest nutritional content of all. This plant packs a whopping 92 nutrients , 46 anti-oxidants and numerous amino acids that your body needs. The best part is you get full absorption with moringa , nothing is lost! Moringa can be taken as tea or the powder in smoothies , drinks etc…Perhaps the most convenient way of taking moringa would be in a capsulised form. Metered dosages, full absorption and convenient.

Turmeric As Effective As many drugs?

Science Confirms Turmeric As Effective As many drugs.
Turmeric is one the most researched plants today, over 5600 clinical trials and biomedical studies have been conducted on this plant.A number of studies have concluded that it compares favorably

to a variety of conventional medications, including:
Lipitor/Atorvastatin(cholesterol medication): A 2008 study published in the journal Drugs in R & D found that a standardized preparation of curcuminoids from Turmeric compared favorably to the drug atorvastatin (trade name Lipitor)
Corticosteroids (steroid medications): A 1999 study published in the journal Phytotherapy Research found that the primary polyphenol in turmeric, the saffron colored pigment known as curcumin, compared favorably to steroids in the management of chronic anterior uveitis, an inflammatory eye disease.
Prozac/Fluoxetine & Imipramine (antidepressants): A 2011 study published in the journal Acta Poloniae Pharmaceutica found that curcumin compared favorably to both drugs in reducing depressive behavior in an animal model.
Aspirin (blood thinner): A 1986 in vitro and ex vivo study published in the journal Arzneimittelforschung found that curcumin has anti-platelet and prostacyclin modulating effects compared to aspirin, indicating it may have value in patients prone to vascular thrombosis and requiring anti-arthritis therapy.
Anti-inflammatory Drugs: A 2004 study published in the journal Oncogene found that curcumin (as well as resveratrol) were effective alternatives to the drugs aspirin, ibuprofen, sulindac, phenylbutazone, naproxen, indomethacin, diclofenac, dexamethasone, celecoxib, and tamoxifen in exerting anti-inflammatory and anti-proliferative activity against tumor cells.
Metformin (diabetes drug): A 2009 study published in the journal Biochemitry and Biophysical Research Community explored how curcumin might be valuable in treating diabetes, finding that it activates AMPK (which increases glucose uptake) and suppresses gluconeogenic gene expression (which suppresses glucose production in the liver) in hepatoma cells. Interestingly, they found curcumin to be 500 times to 100,000 times (in the form known as tetrahydrocurcuminoids(THC)) more potent than metformin in activating AMPK
Another way in which turmeric and its components reveal their remarkable therapeutic properties is in research on drug resistant- and multi-drug resistant cancers. While there are dozens of substances with demonstrable efficacy against these chemotherapy- and radiation-resistant cancers, curcumin tops both lists:
Considering how powerful this amazing plant is , wisdom dictates daily consumption as a nutraceutical supplement rather than heroic dosages when illness sets in. When purchasing Turmeric supplements , ensure that it contains piperine. Turmeric is not readily bio-available, however the addition of piperine increases the absorption rate into your body by more than 2000%
